Across the world, people are making a difference. We help them prove it.

At Capture, we start with the premise that "change" is already taking place. In each neighborhood, town, and village, there are individuals who are rising above, digging deep, and pushing through. We partner with these organizations to equip them with tools to capture their impact, advance their programs, & magnify their message.

About

About the initiative

Capture was formed in 2018 out of a desire to bring specialized psychosocial & educational assessment strategies into the toolbox of nonprofit program evaluation. We work with a small number of carefully selected, forward-thinking organizations & schools, both in the US & abroad, to help them capture & communicate their impact through customized program evaluation support. Projects range in scope from small & short (e.g., providing feedback on a survey) to broader & longer-term (e.g., logic modeling across multiple program evaluation cycles), all self-selected by organizations to fit their individual needs.

Core principles

Self-Directed: We may take the lead on certain project components, but we take a back seat with big decisions. We believe that organizations know themselves best and own their own program evaluation process.

Sustainable: We don't just conduct a workshop, hand over some materials, and expect organizations to figure out the rest. We take the journey with each organization, working alongside staff over time to help them build a robust, internalized process that can be expanded & sustained without us.

Simplified: We help organizations clarify & distill the details of program evaluation, as well as provide technical support to allow staff to focus on the big picture.

Customized: Successful organizations are generally successful because they've found a unique way to address social issues. Program evaluation strategies need to be unique in response. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, we help craft customized tools that highlight these unique strengths.

Integrated: Program evaluation should be more than something that happens after a program takes place. We help staff embed evaluation systems within their programs, creating processes that are not only helpful for external reporting, but useful for internal program growth.

The Process

We use a simple 4-step approach to program evaluation. Our work with each organization generally falls within one or more of these stages. Each step is grounded in evidence-based psychosocial & educational strategy, then adapted for road-worthy, everyday nonprofit use.

Planning & Design: Translating vision into goals & objectives, then planning a responsive evaluation strategy. Activities include strategic planning, logic modeling, assessment of readiness, & instrument selection & design.

Implementation: Putting the plan into action, including assistance with assessment administration, data collection, database management, & troubleshooting.

Analysis: Making sense of the data and identifying areas of strength & opportunities for program advancement, including statistical analysis, building data dashboards, & synthesizing data into evaluation narratives.

Response: Preparing results for communication with internal & external stakeholders, as well as identifying & implementing strategies to respond to program opportunities identified by the data.

Team

Our team is uniquely positioned between the worlds of technical strategy & everyday nonprofit life. Most importantly, we come from community-based nonprofit backgrounds, which helps us be able to translate the technical & theoretical into the relevant & practical. Simply put, we speak both languages.
